BCS’s Emerging Leaders Program selects about a dozen candidates to participate in a year long leadership development program. This program in its fourth year includes monthly presentations from clients, trade partners and BCS leaders. The program is designed to show career path options within BCS for employees who have been identified by their supervisors and demonstrating aptitude, enthusiasm and motivation to make exceptional contributions to the BCS team.

This month’s presentation featured BCS Project Manager, Cesar Hernandez and BCS Director of Field Operations (DOFO), Leonel Perez, presenting a workshop on Plan Reading. The emerging leaders paired up and were guided through a set of structural plans. The DOFO and PM Cesar taught the importance of structural notes, symbols, and requirements. Furthermore, how to find and cut, sections and details within the plans and how to read the tables in reference to their respective schedules. Further classes will include in depth tasking and determination of quantities from a plan set.

April’s presentation will feature more advanced aspects of Plan Reading. The 2025-26 class graduates at the end of May with a written exam over program content as well as interviews with three judges over topics covered in the course, career plans and ideas on how to improve BCS field operations.
