BCS Celebrates 2 Years Without an OSHA Recordable Incident!

A Safety culture exists in any construction company whether an organization proactively manages it or not. Many construction companies struggle with the apparent dichotomy between safety and production as if at times only one of them at a time is achievable.

At BCS, we believe that safety and operations are symbiotic, in other words, they work better together.  Our recordable incident rate of no OSHA recordable incidents since September of 2023 is evidence of this.

BCS leadership has decided to place safety and operations together without having to choose either-or.” Leadership is always a key driver in a Safety culture is largely shaped by leadership. Any system will only be effective if leaders are saying, doing, measuring and reinforcing what they are supposed to. It’s difficult to maintain a positive organizational mindset unless leaders consistently respond the right way.

Leaders have a lot to manage every day and must be trained to drive proactive accountability, connect in meaningful ways with their people, demonstrate commitment to safety, and build trust. A leader who demonstrates these traits will create an environment where employees feel valued and want to be involved in safety, resulting in higher engagement and retention.

The BCS Emerging Leaders is our flagship training program. It is a yearlong program which selects 12-15 employees who have demonstrated a high level of motivation and aptitude on the job. It is in its fourth year, and the program strives to develop engaged leaders in all areas of commercial concrete: Superintendents, Finishers, Rodbusters, Project Managers, Safety Managers and even shop personnel who show that extra level of effort receives the opportunity to participate.  In this program leaders continue their training in areas such as communication, jobsite logistics, PM duties, trade partner relationships, professionalism and more.

Combined with the BCS ongoing training, BCS field leaders also receiving training in OSHA Construction Safety, rigging and signaling, Confined Space, Silica Control, Equipment Operator Certifications and job specific training to name a few.
