BCS received some great news recently, all five candidates who took the American Concrete Institute’s (ACI) Concrete Flatwork written Exam passed. The following students were awarded their certification as Concrete Flatwork Associates:
Reed Boyd-Project Manager
Cesar Hernandez-Project Manager
Rachel Behne-Project Manager
Armando Reyna-Assistant Superintendent
Jesus Aguilar-Assistant Superintendent
This was the culmination of a 12-week course and was a true team effort. Instructor, General Superintendent Leo Perez, led the weekly class discussion on each chapter, and Vice President Todd C. Smith developed course materials and Power Point Presentations. Students also were required to use their previous knowledge and self-study the ACI course materials. Armando Reyna was the first BCS employee to pass the Spanish exam, while the other took the 90-minute, multiple choice exam in English.
This was the second time BCS has offered the 12-week course and the result of the first time was that Instructor, Leonel Perez, was the only student to pass the ACI Exam. Classes and Power Points are bilingual (both Spanish and English) but sometimes the Spanish used on the exam is not the same vocabulary used in Texas Spanish. This can cause confusion on technical issues and is an issue specifically addressed in the class. Armando’s success will hopefully be repeated for future BCS Spanish ACI Exam test takers.
BCS intends to start another preparation class for the ACI Exam in January, focusing on Superintendents and Finishers who are interested.
