BCS’s Emerging Leaders Program selects about a dozen candidates to participate in a year long leadership development program. This program in it’s fourth year includes monthly presentations from clients, trade partners and BCS leaders. The program is designed to show career path options within BCS for employees who have been identified by their supervisors and demonstrating aptitude, enthusiasm and motivation to make exceptional contributions to the BCS team.

James Lewis, Superintendent, White Construction, Speaks to Emerging Leaders Group
This month’s presentation featured James Lewis, Superintendent, White Construction and Spencer Cook, Superintendent, Hill and Wilkinson presenting on Communication, Professional and General Contractor Expectations for Subcontractors. Both superintendents complimented BCS for setting the standard in adding value to projects including setting the standard for safety. James Lewis stated, in my many years in construction, I have had been on many projects with BCS. I don’t build anything, maybe a deck for my house, but BCS and the other subcontractor build our projects.”
Spencer Cook emphasized the importance of communication between subcontractors themselves and the subs and GCs. “The sooner we know about a problem or concern, the sooner we can find a solution. This saves time and money for everyone.” When he was asked about the best part of being a Superintendent he said, “Finishing a project.”
Both presenters focused on BCS’ exceptional safety program and how BCS builds every project safely and even helps project safety not just taking care of their own personnel.
BCS President Ben Horton also contributed to the presentation, reenforcing the key points from both presenters and adding, “BCS needs to answer the phone and fix the GC’s problem. We don’t give excuses or shift the blame or say it is not our fault. BCS helps GCs when they need us. This is just what we do.”
November’s presentation will feature Tex Mix Concrete’s Chris Keathly discussing concrete safety, mix designs, cold weather concrete and communication.
