Recently BCS needed to increase its field workforce by more than 10 percent to meet the manpower needs of several new jobs that have recently started. New workers complete their paperwork and are introduced to the BCS “Best In Class” safety culture. This starts with a safety video created in-house and features BCS employees, both in the field and office and explains more than 100 safety rules as it tours several BCS active jobsites giving visual examples of company safety policies. Workers also learn that certain behaviors tend to contribute to most injury accidents, including, distractions, complacency, being in a hurry, taking short cuts and having a bad safety attitude.

Additionally, new hires receive an OSHA 10 hour class over two days and they also receive fall protection training. Workers discuss the primary hazards they will confront in commercial concrete, like Silica Exposure, Fall Hazards, Ladder and Scaffold Safety and Heat Injury prevention. BCS historically does many types of projects including elevated work, slabs on grade and tilt wall projects. Each type of project presents unique hazards as do projects in Confined Spaces, Deep Excavations and School/Institutional Projects.

New workers are issed their PPE which includes the Kask Zenith 2, ANSI Z89.1, Type 2, safety helmet, Level 4 cut proof gloves and ANSI compliant reflective vests and protective eyewear. BCS along with its trade partners, vendors and general contractors continues to provide everything possible to ensure our workers go home safe at the end of each workday.
