Training the Next Generation of BCS Builders with Bosch and CMC

Our team just grew stronger. On July 2, about 20 of our new workers participated in our intensive basic carpentry training program. The hands-on workshop focused on core fundamentals, equipping our newest team members with the vital skills needed to contribute safely and efficiently to the BCS field team. With support from trade partners Bosch and CMC, BCS’s Director of Field Operations, Leonel Perez, General Superintendent Miguel Castro, Senior Project Manager Reed Boyd and Shop Manager Jose Gonzalez guided the group and periodically conducted feedback and coaching sessions.

Foundations First: Safety and Precision

The training kicked off with a heavy focus on tool safety and maintenance. Participants learned how to properly handle, check, and operate essential hand and power tools. Accuracy is everything in carpentry, so the group spent time mastering measurement techniques before making their first cuts.

Putting Skills to the Test

The takeaways from the training came during the practical build phase. To demonstrate their new skills, the trainees constructed critical jobsite assets from scratch:

  • Sawhorses: Built to learn standard angles, bracing techniques, and load-bearing stability.
  • Jobsite Ladders: Constructed according to OSHA  regulations to ensure safe vertical access.
  • Guardrail Sections: Assembled to highlight the importance of fall protection and structural integrity.

By the end of the event, the team had not only built functional equipment for our current projects but also built their own confidence. Thank you to our BCS trainers, Bosch and CMC and congratulations to our 20 carpenters.
