Employee Spotlight: Meet Jose “Big Chepe” Gonzalez, Shop Manager

This month, we are featuring Jose Gonzalez, our Shop Manager. Since joining the shop team in September 2024, Jose has brought positive energy, leadership, and a passion for working with our shop and field crews.  Jose started at BCS as a carpenter in January 2022 and was promoted to shop manager for his work ethic, great attitude and professionalism.

From A Nail in His Boot to Shop Manager

Jose started out in construction after graduating from high school where he worked with his cousins and uncles and even with father for couple of years.  “It was a challenge for me because it was physically demanding and it made me become a better person.  I learned about hard work, discipline and the construction trade.  I remember the first day of work I stepped on a nail and this was when I first started learning about safety and everybody called me a newbie. I have been learning ever since.”

Organization and Trust in the Shop

“When everyone is asking you for something at the same time, I need to know what I have, where I have it and where it is.  If I don’t have it, I must be able say when I will have it.”  Running the shop for BCS has seen several people try and fail at the position.  Jose had never been in a shop before this experience but was confident he could do a good job.  After two years of success, he knows what he is doing. From the field experience I gained at BCS, I know how important it is to have tools and materials delivered on time for our workers.  I also knew that I had to establish relationships with vendors and our superintendents so that we could build trust and work as a team.” Jose’s likes what he does and his enthusiasm for his work is evident in the support he provides to both the shop and field teams.

Outside of Work

Outside of work, Jose enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. Here are a few quick facts about him:

  • Family: I love spending time with my wife, Gloria and boys Diego and Mateo
  • Outdoor work: He is often outside cutting grass or wood or building something.
  • Favorite Foods: Pozole Verde, Carne Asada and all kinds of seafood
  • Football/Soccer: He is a passionate fan of UT Football and Real Madrid.
  • Future Goals: Own property and building his own house.

Thanks, Jose, for ensuring that our deliveries arrive on time and that our jobsites have everything they need.   Next time you see him in the shop just look for the guy with a big smile and he will probably be moving fast so try to catch up to him.
