OSHA Area Director Provides Fall Stand Down Training for BCS and White Construction

As part of the 13th Annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls, White Construction’s Lab 4.0 jobsite hosted a guest presentation from the OSHA Area Director, Monica Camacho to reinforce the industry’s most vital life-saving protocols for Fall Protection.  BCS’s Vice President of Safety, Todd C. Smith also added a brief presentation on Heat Injury Prevention as part of the morning event.

Leading with Innovation and Safety

During the Lab 4.0 project’s tacos and training event at 7 a.m. on May 6, the OSHA Area Director reminded the project team that while technology evolves, the fundamental risks remain the same: falls remain the leading cause of death in the construction industry, accounting for approximately 38% of all fatalities.

Key Takeaways from the Stand-Down

During the presentation, the Austin Area OSHA Director joined the BCS and White Construction’s safety leadership to lead a direct dialogue with workers on-site. Key focus areas included:

  • Hazard Recognition: Identifying risks unique to advanced lab construction, including working around complex mechanical systems and open leading edges.
  • Three Pillars of Prevention: A focus on the national campaign’s core message—Plan ahead to get the job done safely, Provide the right equipment, and Train everyone to use it correctly.
  • Heat Illness is preventable. Drink Plenty of Water, Take Breaks and Find Shade or a Cool Area.

A Commitment to “Safety”

To wrap up, the team asked for a commitment to a culture of safety by signing the Bosch Tools Pledge to Work Safely. Todd Smith noted that safety goes beyond standard OSHA training—it’s an integral part of a company’s culture where Operations and Safety must unite to drive worker engagement and build safer jobsites.

“Safety is the foundation of everything we build,” White Construction’s General Superintendent James Lewis “Having OSHA leadership on-site at Lab 4.0 underscores our shared goal: ensuring every worker who arrives at our site returns home safely every single day”.
